Character Name: Siren
Canon/OC: Suite Precure♪
Age: Unknown (human form looks like a teenage girl)
AU/Previous Game History/Etc?: OU; canon point - mid-episode 1
Appearance: Cat form
Human form
History: Precure wiki entry

Personality: Imagine if Team Rocket all got lumped somehow into being just one person.

That’s Siren.

Alternatively vain, earnest, short-tempered, scheming, and distractible, Siren manages to combine being Suite Precure’s comic-relief villain with a “serious” backstory. She hails from a magical world called “Major Land”, where music is prized above all else and humans coexist with talking animals and objects. (Siren, herself, is a black cat.) Because she comes from a parallel world, Siren treats the human world and its norms and features as a fascinating, alien new subject - she nosily observes the goings-on around her and tries to make sense of this bizarre new landscape.

Not that she likes much of what she sees. Though by nature a sincere, hardworking star pupil, Siren has been brainwashed by Mephisto, evil king of opposing country Minor Land, into doing his melodramatic and wicked bidding (though she alternates between ingratiating herself and ignoring his complaints). Siren believes that all positive emotions are false and disgusting. It physically hurts her to hear happy music, and she goes out of her way to try and make people unhappy, each of her schemes to that end being more absurd than the last. She has a short temper, and is easily angered by anyone taking life in stride or otherwise thwarting her - she’s rather tyrannical as a superior, and has no qualms about taking credit for others’ actions while she lounges in the sun.

Siren's ego is also not to be trifled with: she's accustomed to being the most talented singer she knows, and isn't satisfied unless the spotlight is on her (what hurts most about Hummy winning the songstress position over her is knowing the judges chose right.) She sincerely believes flamboyant costumes are both beautiful and typical, and if there's an actual stage anywhere she's going to want to crash the party - so everyone will be listening to her instead. Bold and brash, she doesn't shy away from conflict - though she also possesses several humorous phobias, including ghosts and crabs, and will run once thwarted, preferring to scheme again another day instead of trying to fix a plan gone sour.

Siren runs from her own emotions, as well. Despite her harsh exterior, and the comic lengths her villainy and vanity take her to, she's is starved for affection and relationships with others. Still very much in love with music and singing, Siren's attention-seeking habits stem from jealousy and uncertainty - she's not used to being overlooked in favor of others, and it hurts in spite of herself to know Hummy's surpassed her. Yet she's also not used to not knowing what she wants out of life, so she refuses to think about her own emotions. Being brainwashed by Mephisto helps her regain some security, so she submits willingly to the process. At this point, however, a simple kind touch would be enough to leave her waffling between her current morals and this desire for closeness. Being told she's someone's "true friend" is enough to bring her to tears.

Siren is nothing if not mercurial - though she can get carried away on her own "brilliance", act sweet if the situation calls for it, and outright delight in the sufferings of others, it's equally easy to knock her off her groove. Deep down, she is a serious and studious person, but she's also very literal and going through a rough, cynical phase, bringing out all the worst parts of her already high-strung personality. Basically, Siren does what Siren wants, and questioning her motives is an excellent way to coax a temper explosion (and/or make her brood).

But just try to pet her. You might be pleasantly surprised.

Abilities/Skills: Siren is from One of Those Canons that give the villains special powers whenever the plot demands it. I’ve broken them into two lists - things she can currently do and things that require special circumstances.

Things Siren Can Do
♪ The ability to transform into anyone she wants, including (sometimes) changing her voice. No matter what form she takes, however, she’ll always be wearing the same distinctive collar - and her ability to pass depends on her questionable acting abilities.
♪ The ability, in both her true and human forms, to attack people by throwing magical glowing music notes at them.
♪ The ability to sing the “Melody of Sorrow”, an enchanted song that makes anyone who hears it immobilized by depression and sadness, to the point they stop noticing their surroundings. Can be dispelled by someone playing positive music instead.
♪ The ability to put people to sleep by looking into their eyes.
♪ The ability to trap people in magical five-lined staff “ribbon”, making them unable to move their arms. (The way to get out is canon-specific - so I'll alter it to just that you have to sing. People with powers themselves might also be able to power their way out.)
♪ As an alternate to the trap above, the ability to imprison people in a “bubble” of sorts (the staff-ribbon is more common, and what I’ll use, if anything).

Circumstantial Powers
♪ If she spots one of the magical Notes Mephisto has sent her to gather (which only natives of Major Land can see, and for the record probably aren’t here, but if people wanted a monster of the week to attack I’d oblige), Siren can create/control a creature called a “Negatone” by corrupting the Note and fusing it with an object. This will yield a monster capable of inducing the same effects in people as the Melody of Sorrow (unless they’re naturally positive people, or can’t stand bad music), though its other abilities will depend on the item used. Negatones also always look incredibly stupid, probably because Siren keeps picking items like a box of cupcakes or a cherry blossom petal.
♪ She can open communication to Minor Land in any mirror or pool of water - like a video chat with her evil superiors. (This power will be disabled while on the train, as presumably one can't get a connection to Minor Land there.)
♪ If she’s able to feel strongly enough for someone (not necessarily romantically), Siren does contain the potential to transform into “Cure Beat”, a magical girl. I highly doubt this will come to pass, especially since I’m pulling her from the beginning of canon, but the potential exists.
♪ Everything listed under "Things Siren Can Do" is apparently dependent upon her wearing her collar, as once her pendant breaks she’s unable to change her form.

Additionally, while she’s a cat and has been shown doing “catlike” things (having catlike body language, being unable to resist chasing toys, talking to other cats, curling up in the sun), for the sake of humor Siren has also been seen imitating humans while in cat form. She can write, for example, and has been seen running on two legs if her front paws are holding anything. She defaults to feline behavior, however, facial expressions and the occasional human-like pose aside.

Belongings: Just her collar/necklace, which as mentioned is the key to her transformation powers.

Hummy's audition had brought tears to her eyes, but it wasn't Siren who'd be crying after tonight.

Tossing her head with a wicked little smirk, Siren preened herself in front of the mirror, mentally preparing herself for the afternoon's adventure. Today was the day, wasn't it? The grandest concert in all the land, the singing of the Melody of Happiness. That was the plan, in any case. Only a select few - Siren, of course, among them - knew there'd be a change in the performance program.

To that end, she had to look her best. Sitting up after grooming the fur on one ear perfectly straight, Siren frowned at her reflection in the mirror. Cat form? Typical, comfortable - pedestrian. What about -

Switching to human, she fussed with her hair and sighed. Too flat.

A floor-length gown? More appropriate, but this color was all wrong! If she was the last thing an entire country would see before they sank into sorrow, she'd better be sure they had quite the view!

A skirt, then? A dress? How about a tuxedo? Something with polka dots might not be bad. Feathers, feathers were extravagant! She liked that -

Sighing, Siren shrank back to cat form and licked her paw to start working on her other ear. It was no good. She couldn't get excited. This was supposed to be the biggest day of her life - the day she resumed her rightful place, once and for all...

Rightful?

Hummy was probably twice as nervous, Siren mused. That airheaded little kitten had barely made it up onstage to audition - and that'd only been before a handful of judges. The look on her face once she realized the entire kingdom's eyes were only on her - would she freeze up? Would the little idiot just keel over on the spot? Siren spared another moment to smirk. It'd save her a lot of trouble if stage fright did in the selected songstress! She wouldn't have to worry about the timing of her entrance.

Still - Hummy had to be nervous. Practicing for the biggest day of her life, all alone.

Siren glanced about; her dressing room was swathed in shadows, typical for Minor Land. She, too, was alone now. But that was just how she liked it. Why should she care? Why should she stare into that mirror and, instead of her own lovely visage, imagine Hummy, sitting alone, fretting over a score--

"So annoying!" Siren shrieked at the mirror, swinging a paw out and smashing into the polished surface; it cracked from the blow and she jumped back, licking at the stinging side of her paw. "Just cry alone for all I care!"

Stupid Hummy. Even when she wasn't there, she could mess everything up. Siren seethed, ears going flat; testing her paw, she was satisfied that at least she wouldn't limp onto stage. Wouldn't that have been the final ignominy.

Someone knocked on the dressing room door. "I'm coming!" Siren snapped, bristling; whoever it was withdrew. Right. Showtime. And she was ready, she was calm. She'd been Songstress all her life.

And now, Siren thought with satisfaction, a pleased lilt to her step and a wave to her tail as she padded daintily out of the darkened room, it was time to demonstrate exactly why.

She gave the broken mirror not a single thought more.
